Rural Hospital Medicine Training Programme

Rural Hospital Medicine was approved by the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) as a new vocational scope in March 2008, and the Royal New Zealand College of GPs training programme had its first intake of registrars at the end of that year.

The Rural Hospital Medicine Training Programme is four years long. There is a large emphasis on recognition of prior learning and experience and many registrars apply to have this acknowledged with the result that their programme is shortened.
